Basswood Elementary School – Keller ISDBasswood Elementary School – Keller ISD | Architecture | Programming / Strategic Planning | Construction Administration | Interior Design
The design of this new elementary school adheres to the district standards, while accommodating the small site (10.3 acres). The plan for this facility includes a two story classroom wing with a one story cafetorium/gymnasium wing to create an “L” shaped plan.
The building is designed to house 650 students, kindergarten through 4th grade, with predominately sloped metal roofs and deep eaves. These design elements, as well as window orientation were incorporated to reduce east/west sun exposure, integrating sustainable design practices.

The four story facility accommodates 2,500 students and is divided into two functional areas- a three story academic wing and a two story wing housing athletics, fine arts, cafetorium, library and vocational arts. Each wing is organized around a central entry court, which is also used as an overflow area for larger school activities.
The administrative areas, cafetorium and gymnasium all open onto a central circulation spine with views of the exterior courtyards. The building’s architecture is reminiscent of the old “central” high school facilities, while incorporating modern technology and materials.
Hahnfeld Hoffer Stanford served as design architect and interior designer for this project.
