Lucyle Collins Middle School – Lake Worth ISD

Lucyle Collins Middle School serves the 6th thru the 8th grade. The program called for a competition Gym complete with locker room facilities, Cafetorium, Band and Choir spaces. The instructional spaces included Science, Art and Computer labs.

The plan is organized around a curvilinear circulation spine that connects the Cafetorium and the Gym on the South to the Administrative area, media and library center and classrooms on the north. The building is anchored by a double height entrance and lobby that welcome students, faculty and visitors. It is defined by compound arcs that culminate at their widest point where a raised elliptical element filters natural light from the North.

A continuous clerestory introduces light in from the South. The reception area flanks the Entrance and Lobby on the North to allow for monitoring of the students and screening of the visitors.
