Hazel Harvey Peace Elementary School, Fort Worth ISD

A 2007 public bond package brought improvements to various aspects of the Fort Worth ISD, including the design and construction of this new 70,000 sq foot school. As the only new school in the bond program, the project brought new ideas and technologies to the district.

This single-story kindergarten through 5th grade school contains classrooms, gymatorium, kitchen, administrative offices, media center/library, teachers’ workrooms and ancillary spaces. Instead of long, narrow classroom wings as is prevalent in many schools, the design of this school has classrooms on the perimeter of a larger, almost square building with shared spaces in the center. It features the first geothermal cooling and heating systems in the Fort Worth ISD.

Peace Elementary School is the first CHPS (Collaborative of High Performance Schools) project for the Fort Worth ISD, with BIM technology used throughout the Design and Construction Documents phases.
